Aquarium Heater Element

The element is a piece of wire which heats up when connected to electricity. On glass cased models you should be able to see it coiled around the inside.

If left on for prolonged periods the heater element can begin to glow red hot. This is a sign that your aquarium heater is not switching off often enough. You may require a larger heater or a lower heat setting.

The element will usually be wound around a ceramic or glass core which helps to separate the filaments of the element from one other.
